On Wednesday afternoon, the Republicans in the House of Representatives tried to bring Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to justice and hold him accountable for pushing the “Russia collusion” narrative during the 2016 presidential campaign. Unfortunately, the Democrats were able to use their majority to table the measure brought by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) as a privileged resolution to censure and fine Schiff.
Adam Schiff Avoids Being Censured in Republican-Controlled House, For Now

Despite the fact that twenty Republicans voted with the Democrats to table the measure, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) stood out as particularly disappointing, as he indicated over Twitter he would vote to table the motion, thus not holding Schiff accountable. Although he agreed Schiff “acted unethically,” Massie expressed that the “$16 million fine is in violation of the 27th and 8th amendments.” This move by Massie was considered a betrayal by many concerned Americans who are tired of politicians not being held accountable for their dishonest actions.

The Constitution says the House may make its own rules but we can’t violate other (later) provisions of the Constitution.
A $16 million fine is a violation of the 27th and 8th amendments.

We have a number of pressing challenges before our country.
Instead of addressing them, @SpeakerMcCarthy is taking up a MAGA effort to censure and fine me $16 million to distract from Donald Trump’s legal problems.
And to deter me from holding him accountable. It won’t stop me. pic.twitter.com/CwDNyb29fY

20 Republicans voted w/ Dems to stop the ethics investigation, censure, & fine of Adam Schiff.
So there is no confusion (as some did not accurately read the bill) I will be filing a privileged motion to censure & send Schiff to ethics for investigation.
See you next week Adam.

There was a lot of drama leading up to the vote, with Rep. Massie and others feeling the pressure from the public to do the right thing. “Massie” and “Schiff” both trended on Twitter in the lead-up to the vote, with Americans demanding justice and honesty from their elected officials.
The fact that Schiff has yet to respond to the vote outcome, instead focusing on video messages and fundraising appeals on his Twitter account, is a clear indication that he knows he is guilty and doesn’t want to be held accountable. But we must not let him get away with his lies and deception. In January, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) removed Schiff from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, along with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), citing Schiff lying to the American people about the “Russian collusion” hoax as well as the Ukrainian whistleblower.
It’s time for Schiff to face the consequences of his actions. Rep. Luna tweeted that she will be filling a privileged motion to censure Schiff and refer him to the Ethics Committee, and we must support her efforts to hold Schiff accountable. We cannot let dishonest politicians get away with their lies and continue to undermine the integrity of our democracy. It’s time for transparency, honesty, and accountability in our government.
