DOJ Takes Action Against Cartels Biden Weak on Crime

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has taken decisive action against the nefarious elements of the Los Rojos drug cartel, showcasing the type of law enforcement needed to combat the ongoing crisis caused by drug trafficking and violent crime. The arrest and extradition of Omar Cuenca-Marino, the alleged kingpin of this cartel, has become the latest feather in the cap of federal authorities, reinforcing that the Biden-Harris administration’s lax approach to crime will not cut it in the long run.

Cuenca-Marino, who apparently thought he was untouchable in his drug trafficking ways, has just learned otherwise. Having been indicted nearly seven years ago, he is now facing federal charges including conspiracy to commit money laundering and the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin throughout Georgia. The operation that reeled him in is a reminder that while politicians may squabble over border issues, serious stakeholders are determined to end the wreaking havoc brought on by cartel activity in American communities.

For years, Cuenca-Marino and his cartel contributed to the tide of illicit drugs flooding into the United States, demonstrating a complete disregard for public safety and health. Reports indicate that between 2013 and 2016, his organization facilitated the transportation of thousands of kilograms of drugs across the border using buses and tractor-trailers as conduits of destruction. Case after case has shown that law enforcement was closing in, with significant drug seizures in Georgia that illustrated just how deeply the cartel had infiltrated the distribution network. Seventy-five kilograms of meth, anyone? Apparently, Cuenca-Marino didn’t mind getting his hands dirty with that kind of cargo.

The recent extradition of 29 members of various Mexican cartels also underscores the long-awaited crackdowns on cartel violence that the Biden administration has overlooked. Many of these individuals had dodged extradition requests during a time of weak enforcement. In stark contrast, the Trump administration utilized executive powers to designate these cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, a move that seems to have finally spurred some action from Mexico. It’s a prime example of how leadership can make a difference when it comes to real-world implications across the border.

American citizens deserve to know that those who threaten their safety will be held accountable. With the resurgence in harsher federal action against drug cartels, including the potential for terrorism charges and capital punishment for the most heinous figures, the DOJ’s stance is becoming clearer: these criminals will not escape justice. Attorney General Pamela Bondi’s commitment to hunting down these drug lords sends a strong message to both the law enforcement community and the American public: the days of coddling criminals with friendly extradition policies are over.

In a world where the cartels operate like the high-tech villains in a summer blockbuster, it’s refreshing to see the good guys—armed with laws, policy, and an unyielding desire for justice—taking the fight to these organizations. The moral of this story is simple: when law enforcement is willing to act decisively, even the most notorious drug lords can find themselves in a courtroom facing the music, as Cuenca-Marino has now discovered.
