A drunk driver in Colorado nearly killed a state trooper and innocent families on August 10th when he drove his Mercedes over 100 miles per hour in the wrong direction on Interstate 25. Nelson Oldham, 36, turned a busy highway into his personal demolition derby, putting countless lives at risk with his selfish and reckless choices. This is exactly the kind of dangerous criminal behavior that hardworking Americans should never have to face on their daily commute.
The chaos started when Oldham nearly slammed into another driver going over 100 mph near Fort Collins. Then this maniac did a U-turn right on the interstate and started driving south in the northbound lanes at high speed. The same innocent witness almost got hit again, this time head-on, because one selfish drunk decided the rules don’t apply to him.
A brave citizen called 911 to report this menace before he could kill someone. That witness probably saved lives by speaking up when they saw something wrong. This is what good Americans do when they see criminals putting families in danger.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Bogart stepped up when it mattered most. Dashcam video shows Oldham’s Mercedes coming straight at the trooper in the wrong direction, forcing the officer to slam on his brakes to avoid a deadly head-on crash. The chase finally ended when Oldham pulled into a fast food parking lot where Trooper Bogart arrested him without further incident. Oldham now faces a long list of charges including vehicular eluding, DUI, speeding, and reckless endangerment. He earned every single one of those charges with his dangerous and selfish actions.
This incident shows why we need strong law enforcement and tough penalties for drunk drivers. When criminals think they can endanger innocent families without consequences, our roads become war zones. We need judges who will throw the book at repeat offenders instead of giving them slaps on the wrist.
Too many Americans are getting hurt because some people think laws are just suggestions. Drunk driving kills over 10,000 people every year, and most of those victims are innocent families just trying to get home safely. We cannot let criminals like Oldham turn our highways into death traps.
Thank God for Trooper Bogart and all our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day. Without brave officers like him, this story could have ended with multiple families planning funerals instead of going home safe. We need to back our police and demand justice for anyone who threatens innocent Americans.
