Former Governor Bobby Jindal, a rising star in the Republican Party, is making a comeback after exiting the political stage in 2016. Jindal, known for his exceptional life story and political rise, has an impressive resume. He served as the head of the state Department of Health and Hospitals at the young age of 24, became the youngest president of the University of Louisiana System at 28, and was appointed as the assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by President George W. Bush.

Jindal’s political career started in 2003 when he ran for governor as a Republican candidate. Although he initially lost in the runoff, he was elected to Congress the next year and eventually became the youngest governor in the country in 2007. Throughout his career, Jindal was known for his youth and nonwhite ethnicity, earning him the nickname “the Republican Obama.”
However, Jindal was a vocal critic of then-candidate Donald J. Trump during the 2016 election. He called Trump a “narcissist and egomaniac” and argued that his nomination as the Republican candidate would guarantee a win for Hillary Clinton. Despite his opposition, Trump won the nomination and ultimately the presidency.
After Trump’s presidency, Jindal co-authored an op-ed calling for “Trumpism without Trump.” He argued that Republicans should adopt Trump’s policies while jettisoning his demeanor. Jindal emphasized the need to fight for the working class and to resist cancel culture. He believed that a renewed populist conservatism could help Republicans build a durable majority coalition.
However, Jindal’s view seems to have evolved in recent years. He has now endorsed Trump for President in 2024, highlighting Trump’s success with Israel and his tough stance on Iran. Jindal acknowledged that Trump may fail likability and personality tests but argued that the republic needs a warrior. His endorsement marks a surprising turn for someone who was once a vocal critic of Trump.
Overall, Jindal’s return to the political stage and his endorsement of Trump indicate a shift in his views and a willingness to support Trump’s policies. His endorsement may also hint at ambitions for a future role in the Trump administration or even as Trump’s running mate.
