In a remarkable and deeply spiritual moment at Saint Peter’s Basilica, 97-year-old Cardinal Ernest Simoni performed an exorcism prayer that was written by Pope Leo XIII. This event drew significant attention not only because of the significance of its setting—one of the most sacred places in the Catholic Church—but also due to the remarkable life of Cardinal Simoni, often referred to as the “living martyr of Albania.” His legacy of faith and resilience serves as a powerful reminder of the struggles faced by Christians, especially under oppressive regimes.
Cardinal Simoni endured enormous suffering during the Communist era in Albania, where countless Christians were persecuted.
