America is facing a troubling trend where certain media outlets and left-leaning voices are increasingly willing to romanticize or even celebrate criminals, so long as their actions align with a preferred ideological narrative. The case of Luigi Mangione, accused of the cold-blooded murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is a glaring example. Instead of universal condemnation, some on the left have gone so far as to paint Mangione as a folk hero, simply because his victim was a corporate executive. This is not just absurd—it’s dangerous, and it signals a moral rot that threatens the very fabric of our justice system.
Mangione’s crime was not a random act of violence. According to prosecutors, he meticulously planned the assassination, targeting Thompson for his role in the health insurance industry. The killer even inscribed bullets with words like “deny,” “delay,” and “depose”—a direct reference to grievances against insurance companies. Yet, rather than focusing on the heinous nature of the act and the suffering inflicted on Thompson’s family, some commentators and activists have chosen to lionize Mangione, framing him as a symbol of resistance against corporate America. This twisted logic not only excuses violence but encourages it, especially when the target is deemed politically or socially expendable.
The left’s selective outrage is on full display. Had the victim been a union leader, a progressive activist, or anyone with the “right” credentials, the same voices now rationalizing Mangione’s actions would be leading a chorus of outrage and demanding justice. Instead, we see a disturbing willingness to justify or downplay violence when it serves a broader ideological agenda. This double standard is not only hypocritical but also corrosive to the rule of law and public safety.
This phenomenon isn’t limited to the Mangione case. Across the country, we’re witnessing a rise in political violence and threats, often inflamed by reckless rhetoric and a media environment that too often rewards notoriety over accountability. When criminals are treated as misunderstood rebels or martyrs, it sends a dangerous message to the next generation: that violence is an acceptable means to achieve political or social goals. The glorification of lawlessness undermines the very principles that keep our society civil and safe.
It’s time for leaders on all sides—especially Democrats and their allies in the media—to unequivocally denounce political violence and the normalization of criminality. There is no excuse for murder, no matter the victim’s profession or perceived status. America must return to a place where justice is blind, where criminals are condemned, and where the rule of law is upheld without ideological exception. Anything less is an invitation to chaos, and our nation deserves far better.
