These centers, seemingly thriving on state funds, stand empty of children, raising eyebrows and questions. The story gained traction after a viral video posted by an independent journalist showed these businesses with doors wide open, yet no sounds of play or laughter within. Over 114 million views later, it’s a wonder how such blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars flew under the radar for so long.
One of the key players in this drama is Quality Learning Center, which, judging by the misspelled sign on its building, seems to have some fundamental learning problems of its own. Over three years, this daycare has racked up more than 120 violations, ranging from lacking proper documentation to, quite bluntly, not having the proper setup for a child care facility. Yet, somehow, between 2019 and 2024, nearly $8 million in federal tax money found its way into this operation’s coffers. If money could magically vaporize to oblivion, this must be the closest thing to it.
The tantalizing tale doesn’t end there. The original video’s revelations have propelled investigators to explore other child care centers across the Twin Cities. What they’re uncovering is a pattern of red flags that make one question the oversight—or lack thereof—by the authorities tasked with ensuring taxpayer money is used appropriately. It seems that some people believe the best form of child care is the kind that doesn’t require any actual children. Perhaps it’s a new, more Zen approach to early education?
With local and federal investigators now entrenched in this probe, fingers are pointed, papers are shuffled, and yet the larger question remains. How is it that millions can be shuffled around so carelessly while honest working families struggle to find quality, affordable care for their children? The audacity of these schemes not only insults taxpayers but also underscores a glaring oversight failure, one that risks eroding public trust.
