Fetterman Blasts Dems’ Stance on Voter ID Laws

In the heart of America, where common sense often seems like an endangered species, there’s still a conversation about something as simple as showing an ID to vote. Now, it’s a little baffling how this basic requirement, which many folks might assume we’ve had in place since George Washington’s time, stirs up such a fuss. But folks in Wisconsin recently decided to cement this modest proposal into their Constitution, with a solid 63% giving it the thumbs up. It seems only reasonable that a citizen should prove they are who they say they are before casting a vote that shapes the country’s future. But some people think otherwise.

What’s interesting is that those same reasonable Wisconsin folks also elected a very liberal justice to their Supreme Court. Who says you can’t mix a little left with your right? This just goes to show that requiring ID at the polls isn’t exactly a radical idea; it’s more of a no-brainer. After all, IDs are part of everyday life. They are needed to drive, board a plane, or even open a bank account. Yet, when it comes to securing the integrity of elections, some find this to be as controversial as pineapple on pizza.

Now, let’s be clear. No one’s suggesting a return to bygone days of unfair voting laws from the Jim Crow era. Those were indeed dark chapters in American history. But to pretend that showing ID at the ballot box is on par with those discriminatory practices is a stretch, to say the least. It’s almost like comparing your school cafeteria mystery meat to a five-star steakhouse meal.

As if voting wasn’t enough, there’s the matter of securing the border and deporting criminals lurking among us. People across the political spectrum, even some Democrats, are now saying it’s time to get serious about these issues. This is what happens when reality has a way of waking folks up from their ideological slumber. It’s time for them to focus on common goals, like ensuring safety and security for American families—Democrats and Republicans alike.

No one wants to see the government shut down over political bickering either. Regular folks want a government that works, not one that leaves citizens hanging while politicians play their games in Washington. It’s refreshing to hear anyone, let alone a Democrat, say they don’t ever want to vote to shut the government down again. Maybe, just maybe, there’s hope for some bipartisan sensibility. Or maybe they realized that, like a bad joke, the shutdown never goes over as well as they expect. Either way, if common sense continues to break out like this, there might just be hope after all.
