Like clockwork, the same essential services are feeling the pinch. Federal agencies such as FEMA and TSA are caught in the crossfire, endangering national security more than any real enemy ever could. It’s almost as if someone’s trying to score political points while risking the safety and security of millions of citizens. Imagine that.
Congressman Tim Burchett is stepping into the ring, voicing concerns that Democrats have more interest in causing chaos rather than crafting solutions. According to Burchett, the current mess is little more than a tactical maneuver aimed at disrupting what he dubs “America’s agenda”—essentially President Trump’s agenda. He points to the Democrats’ somewhat baffling objective to trim funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while other key agencies are left to languish without financial support. This appears to be an attempt to flex some sort of outdated political muscle, the kind that should’ve stayed on the scrapheap of history.
The Congressman rightly praises President Trump’s foresight regarding the country’s border security needs. Trump had, in his classic fashion, ensured that ICE and Customs and Border Protection were fully funded, keeping them out of the fray in this budgetary tug-of-war. Burchett senses a touch of chessmaster-level thinking there, with Trump several moves ahead while others struggle on the checkers board. The rest of the country is likely wondering why they have to deal with travel woes and compromised national events just because some people can’t seem to agree on what’s important.
Meanwhile, TSA officials are ringing alarm bells about the national security implications of this budget stalemate. With the FIFA World Cup drawing ever closer, the need for robust airport security is critical. It’s almost laughable how the party that’s supposedly advocating for safety can throw caution to the wind for the sake of political grandstanding. Perhaps this is another case of the left hand not knowing what the far-left hand is doing.
Amidst all the government squabbling and economic uncertainties, everyday Americans are feeling the pinch of inflation, too. While the economy seems to be sending a mixed bag of messages with some positive data, the average family still faces higher prices for everyday items—luxury chocolates, flowers, and Valentine’s Day gifts come to mind. Congressman Burchett brings up a valuable point: unchecked spending under Biden’s administration is steering the country toward financial oblivion. So much for those promises about a stable economy. It might be time for Washington to revisit what made America flourish before and reconsider whose agenda they truly serve.
