Hollywood and late-night TV have seemingly decided they’re not just entertaining us anymore; they’re on a crusade to keep us all on the progressive train. Who knew laughter could come with a side of mandatory political ideology? Just when you thought you were tuning in for a chuckle, you get a heaping serving of left-wing propaganda seasoned with a splash of disdain for anyone who dares lean right.
Take Jimmy Fallon, for instance. Remember when he was just a harmless guy messing up Donald Trump’s hair? Those were the days! Fast forward a few years, and it’s clear that Fallon’s comedic style has been influenced by the progressive forces lurking in the halls of NBC. After Donald Trump’s election, the pressure was on for Fallon to stop being the fun-loving goofball we all enjoyed and start tossing in some politically charged humor. Simply being nice to a guest wasn’t going to cut it anymore. No, he had to become a political weapon, because why not turn late-night TV into a battleground for political agendas?
Then there’s the case of Jay Leno who, despite being one of the last comedians to truly dish it out to presidents from both parties, was played out of the game like an old Nintendo console. Leno’s downfall was his courage in confronting President Obama while other late-night hosts were patting him on the back. This is the real danger that comes from a comedian who can make fun of the ruling party without fear of losing his gig. Heaven forbid someone make jokes that might upset the liberal establishment or, gasp, raise questions about the administration’s questionable dealings.
Now, flip the channel to Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. These two have turned their shows into a parade of anti-Trump sentiment. Colbert has made it his daily mission to rip into Trump with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, while Kimmel, whose name should probably come with a warning label for “heavy political content,” has been known to turn heartfelt moments about his family into an anti-Trump diatribe. Balancing genuine emotion with a political agenda is an art that many late-night hosts are proud to botch, as their ratings plummet like a lead balloon in a kiddie pool.
And wait! Was that laughter I heard suddenly interrupted by a cold-open PSA about the state of democracy? Yes, indeed! The laughs are there, but only if you subscribe to the current social justice narrative. What’s funny is how these hosts don’t seem to realize that while they’re busy basking in the glow of their liberal echo chambers, they’re alienating half the country and becoming the ultimate unintentional comedy. If only they could channel their previous charm and humor to acknowledge differing viewpoints while criticizing their opponents in a way that could make for good comedy!
