On Thursday, Republican Georgia representatives proposed a bill that would ban child sex change procedures, including surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers. This proposed bill is a much needed step in the right direction for the safety and well-being of children. It is a sad reality that the transgender agenda has been pushed on our children, and it is time for parents to take back control of their children’s health decisions.

House Bill 653, if passed, would have a dual purpose of preventing minors from undergoing cross-sex medical interventions and also preventing school employees, including nurses and counselors, from keeping information about a child’s gender identity hidden from parents. This measure is crucial in safeguarding parents’ rights to decide on their children’s health and overall welfare.
Reminder: this is yet another attack from the GA GOP on bodily autonomy and Georgians’ private medical decisions.

In February, the Senate introduced Bill 140, which aims to prohibit cross-sex surgeries and hormones for minors, excluding puberty blockers. Republican sponsor of SB 140, Senator Carden Summers, has cited the need for further research on these treatments. However, it is crucial to bear in mind that these treatments can lead to permanent consequences and have adverse effects on a child’s physical and mental well-being over an extended period.
The Georgia Democratic party has criticized the bills, claiming that they could harm transgender children. However, this is simply not true. These bills are not about harming transgender children; rather, they are about protecting children from dangerous and often irreversible medical procedures.
Should either bill pass, Georgia would join a growing number of conservative states that have imposed limitations on child sex change procedures in recent months. Mississippi recently enacted a ban on child sex changes, while Tennessee passed a comparable bill in February that awaits the governor’s approval, both prohibiting puberty blockers for minors. It is heartening to observe that more states are acknowledging the risks of these procedures and implementing measures to safeguard children from them.
It is clear that the proposed bills in Georgia are an important step in protecting children from dangerous and often irreversible medical procedures. It is time for parents to take back control of their children’s health decisions and put an end to the transgender agenda being pushed on our children. The proposed bills are a much needed step in the right direction for the safety and well-being of our children.
