Republican lawmakers have raised concerns about President Joe Biden’s Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley after finding evidence that he downloaded sensitive and classified documents and potentially shared them with individuals outside the U.S. government.
Sen. James Risch and Rep. Michael McCaul sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding their inquiry into Malley. They discovered that Malley’s security clearance was revoked by the State Department in April 2023, and he was placed on unpaid leave in June 2023. The FBI is currently investigating the matter.
Reports suggest that Malley transferred sensitive and classified documents to his personal devices, some of which involved his interactions with Iranian officials. Risch and McCaul have questioned whether Malley shared these documents with individuals who lacked the proper security clearance, specifically those affiliated with the Iranian government or the Iran Experts Initiative.

The Iran Experts Initiative is a group of experts on the Middle East based in the U.S. and Europe, and it has been linked to Iranian policy issues.
