While the President seems to have grudgingly agreed to the release of a second video, it’s causing quite a rukus on Capitol Hill. The controversial video reportedly shows two strikes on what intelligence claims is a drug-ridden vessel in the Caribbean. One can’t help but wonder if the real show here isn’t the video, but the performance from certain political players who are suddenly fired up about transparency.
Now, before anyone gets too excited about this newfound enthusiasm for openness, let’s not forget a little history lesson. This administration has not exactly been a beacon of transparency, especially when it comes to handling border issues. For four years, the current administration has seen alarming numbers of foreign gang activities and drugs crossing the border. These facts seem conveniently overlooked by those who are now, all of a sudden, transparency advocates. Young Americans have faced the brunt of these incursions, with record overdoses marking the tragic outcome of a lax border policy.
It’s rather curious how selective memory works in Washington. Remember the days when drone strikes were just a regular Tuesday during the previous administrations? Yet, there wasn’t quite the same uproar then as there is now over this video. Back in the day, the government was no stranger to military actions taken on alleged threats without much fanfare from the media. And let’s not omit the colossal mishap during the Afghan withdrawal, a horror show that deserves more attention than it got.
While Democrats are getting hot under the collar about the video, one wonders where this passion was when prosecutorial neglect allowed the southern border to essentially become a turnstile for illegal activities. It’s fascinating to watch them whip up tension over this issue when for years, they seemed to wear blindfolds as cartel antics unfolded at the border. When cartels used drones to snoop overhead, saturating American air space with audacity, the silence from these critics was deafening.
Amidst this political theatre, another pressing concern remains: affordability. When comparing economic metrics from the past administrations, the current numbers are stark. From inflation to auto prices, Americans feel the pinch more than ever. While the administration promises legislative remedies, such proposals are often filled with grand promises but rarely deliver. For instance, the infamous line about keeping existing healthcare plans comes to mind, an empty promise that still resonates with frustration among consumers. Even as they push policies to fix healthcare costs, trust and reliability have already been damaged by previous letdowns. All in all, whether it’s videos or political deceits, transparency and accountability need to extend beyond surface-level theatrics to impact real change.
