Climate activist Greta Thunberg just got a reality check from Israel after her second failed attempt to break through their naval blockade around Gaza. The 22-year-old was detained and deported by Israeli forces in June, and now she’s back for round two with an even bigger flotilla. This time she’s leading hundreds of activists from 44 countries in what she calls a humanitarian mission.
Thunberg claims Israel “illegally attacked and kidnapped” her group in international waters during her first attempt. She’s now crying about violations of international law while completely ignoring the fact that Israel has every right to protect its borders. The activist seems to forget that Hamas, a terrorist organization, controls Gaza and has been launching attacks on Israeli civilians for years.
Israel has maintained a perfectly legal naval blockade of Gaza since Hamas seized control in 2007. This blockade exists to prevent weapons and military equipment from reaching terrorists who want to destroy the Jewish state. Maritime law experts confirm that Israel has the authority to defend this blockade during an armed conflict.
The social media response to Thunberg’s deportation has been brutal. Many Americans are laughing at how this privileged European activist thinks she can lecture a nation fighting for survival. Her dramatic claims about being “kidnapped” ring hollow when Israel actually treated the activists well and provided them with food.
Thunberg rejects accusations of antisemitism, but her actions tell a different story. She’s actively trying to help break a blockade designed to keep weapons away from Hamas terrorists. Supporting efforts to arm Israel’s enemies while demonizing the Jewish state’s right to self-defense raises serious questions about her true motives.
The climate activist turned Middle East expert now wants to open a “humanitarian corridor” to Gaza. What she really wants is to help Hamas receive supplies without Israeli oversight. This naive approach ignores the reality that Hamas steals humanitarian aid to fund their terrorist operations against innocent Israelis.
Israel already facilitates massive amounts of humanitarian aid to Gaza through proper channels. The country has implemented significant measures to expand aid deliveries through the UN and international organizations. Thunberg’s publicity stunt adds nothing except propaganda value for Hamas and other enemies of Israel.
This embarrassing episode shows what happens when woke activists try to insert themselves into complex geopolitical situations they don’t understand. Thunberg should stick to climate protests instead of supporting terrorist organizations. Israel will continue protecting its people regardless of what European activists think about it.
