The winds of Hurricane Milton howled through Florida, but the real storm brewing was between Kamala Harris and Devon Mostert, the wife of Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert. In a classic display of political opportunism, Harris took to the media to lambast Governor Ron DeSantis, claiming he was neglecting his duties during the hurricane crisis by not answering her calls. Mostert, however, wasn’t about to let this political grandstanding go unchallenged.
Mostert unleashed a social media storm of her own, suggesting that Harris’s attempts to undermine DeSantis didn’t quite add up. Her rather blunt assessment implied that Harris’s grasp of reality—let alone math—was questionable at best. In the midst of a natural disaster, Mostert called out the vice president for her inane remarks, succinctly putting it as “the math ain’t matching, sis.” It seems not everyone is amused by Harris’s penchant for making political hay out of people’s suffering.

Devon Mostert didn’t stop there; she went on to label Harris’s rhetoric as textbook trash. The Dolphins star’s wife pointedly questioned why Harris felt the need to engage in political theatrics when serious issues were at hand. By posting a video of President Biden praising DeSantis’s handling of the hurricane, Mostert clearly indicated that even the President of the United States recognizes the competence of the Florida governor, much to Harris’s embarrassment.
As the vice president continued to assert that DeSantis’s behavior was irresponsible and focused on politics over the needs of the people, many watched in disbelief. It became clear that her criticism was a strategic misstep—an unforced error—especially given that Biden had publicly contradicted her assertions. DeSantis maintained that his priority was always the people of Florida, which, of course, Harris found hard to accept. She has had three and a half years in the vice presidency, yet her track record on crisis management in the state leaves much to be desired.
In the face of such outlandish claims, DeSantis fired back, disputing Harris’s delusion that he was doing anything other than his job. He pointed out that his sole purpose during the crisis was to support his constituents, whereas her contributions had been notably absent in Florida’s moments of need. The contrast between effective conservative leadership and the chaos represented by Harris is like night and day, leaving many hopeful that voters will recognize the difference when it comes time to head to the polls.
With the midterm elections looming, one can only wonder how many more desperate attempts Harris will make to pull publicity stunts out of disaster scenarios. Meanwhile, for the people of Florida, seeing true leadership in action has been a refreshing reminder of what can happen when politics takes a backseat to actual governance.
