Kamala Harris has reportedly gained some traction in her presidential campaign since Joe Biden decided to exit stage left. This has left many Americans scratching their heads, particularly those who’ve seen her “leadership” in action thus far. It’s almost as if the political landscape is experiencing a seismic shift, but instead of shaking things up positively, it’s just shaking loose more confusion and disarray among the Democrats.
For the longest time, Donald Trump was riding high, with Biden’s debate flops making the current President’s mental acuity seem questionable at best. After multiple reports cast doubt on Biden’s viability as a candidate, whispers of potential replacements began floating around more frequently than the “Let’s Go Brandon” chant at a NASCAR event. The former President’s popularity looked unassailable, especially after that infamous debate where Biden seemed more lost than a tourist in a foreign city without a map. However, once Harris decided to jump into the race, it seems the Democrats found a lifeline—even if it’s more of a life raft trying to stay afloat in a sea of political turmoil.

Currently, as the Harris campaign has jumped into full swing, Trump’s polling numbers are slipping like a toddler trying to walk on ice. She’s managed to edge ahead of Trump in the Real Clear Politics polling average, albeit by a razor-thin margin of 1.5 points—not exactly a resounding lead but enough to get the liberal crowd buzzing with excitement. While the former Vice President still maintains a cozy distance from the press (a strategic tactic that could backfire spectacularly), she has revealed a limited array of policy initiatives, so far leaning heavily into cliché ideas. Banning “price gouging” has become her rallying cry, proving once again that Democrats see very little wrong with limiting personal freedoms in the name of pragmatism.
In the world of fundraising, Democrats historically have had a monopoly over dollars. Still, the tides seemed to turn when Biden’s slip in popularity scared off even the big-money donors. With Biden’s departure draining the coffers, for a brief moment, Trump supporters felt as if they were sipping from a fountain of fiscal victory. However, Harris, in a stunning twist, has managed to rake in an astonishing $500 million since taking up the mantle from Biden, indicating a level of enthusiasm that might be hydrogen-filled hot air. This financial uptick has some analysts pondering whether she’s the next candidate to throw a welcome party for Big Government yet again.
Election analysts, too, are recalibrating their crystal balls. With swing states like Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia initially trending towards the Republican side, Harris’ entry into the race has, predictably, muddled the waters. The Cook Political Report has reverted these states to the “toss-up” category—an acknowledgment that Democrats may still cling to hope, however flimsy, of snagging those electoral votes. Ironically, one could argue these swings reflect the fickle nature of public opinion rather than any lasting allegiance to the policies being promulgated.
In short, while the Democrats appear to be throwing everything at the wall, hoping something sticks, conservative voters are wise to the game. Harris may be making headlines, but the underlying issues facing the country—including skyrocketing inflation and vast overreach by the government—may ultimately steer the ship back into the Republican harbor come election day.
