The would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, apparently thought hiding in some shrubbery with a rifle and a GoPro was a perfect plan, as if he were auditioning for the worst spy movie ever. Thankfully, the Secret Service agents, tasked with securing the area, noticed a suspicious barrel sticking out from the foliage and foiled this wannabe assassin’s plot before it could turn deadly.
The media’s reaction to this brazen attempt on Trump’s life has showcased just how wildly unhinged they can be. In a matter of days, they shifted from downplaying the threat—claiming it wasn’t really an attempt on Trump’s life since he wasn’t shot—to asserting that Trump might leverage this situation for political gains. And then, in a true display of victim-blaming, some characters in media circles began suggesting that Trump himself is somehow responsible because of his so-called “heated rhetoric.” It’s an absurd game of mental gymnastics every conservative voter can see right through.
