Another day, another violent crime in America’s cities. On August 1st, a poker player in Houston thought he was heading back to his hotel after a big win. Instead, he became the latest victim of brazen criminals who don’t fear our justice system.
The attack happened around 5:40 in the morning at a DoubleTree Hotel in Houston’s Galleria area. Two thugs followed this man from the poker room and waited for him in the hotel lobby. Security video shows them punching him in the head and knocking him to the ground before stealing his wallet and running away like cowards.
This is what happens when criminals know they can get away with anything. These weren’t desperate people stealing food. These were calculated predators who stalked an innocent American and used violence to take what he earned.
The suspects drove off in a white sedan with a third person behind the wheel. That means at least three criminals worked together to plan this attack. Police think they followed the victim two miles from the card room to his hotel, proving this was no random crime.
Houston police are offering a measly five thousand dollar reward for information. Meanwhile, hardworking taxpayers are supposed to feel safe while violent criminals roam free. Our law enforcement needs more support and our courts need to start handing down real punishment.
Poker rooms and casinos have become hunting grounds for criminals who know players carry cash. These establishments rake in profits while their customers get robbed and beaten in parking lots and hotel lobbies. Where is the responsibility to protect the people who make these businesses rich.
Every American has the right to feel safe, but we also need to use common sense. Flashing money around and walking alone at night makes you a target for the predators who prey on decent people. Situational awareness could save your life.
These criminals need to be caught and thrown in prison for a very long time. Until we start treating violent crime seriously, more innocent Americans will suffer while the bad guys laugh at our weak justice system.
