In a recent Capitol Hill spectacle, Hunter Biden stirred up yet another round of controversy. The House Judiciary Committee has gone ahead and given the green light to a resolution demanding that the president’s son be held in contempt of Congress. This comes after Hunter boldly defied a congressional subpoena and refused to comply with a deposition request from House lawmakers.

In a strictly partisan vote of 23-14, the Judiciary Committee took a decisive step forward in the House GOP’s relentless pursuit to hold President Joe Biden accountable for a laundry list of supposed misdeeds. The aim this time was to extract crucial information from one of the key figures in the Biden family business.
The resolution seeking to formally hold Hunter in contempt of Congress, along with a report put forth by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), has been put on the docket for a vote by all members of the lower chamber.
The decision to push through with the contempt resolution is part and parcel of the House GOP’s fervent impeachment investigation into President Biden. It came to fruition following over six hours of hearings on Wednesday, an unexpected appearance by Hunter Biden, and the usual shenanigans from House Democrats.
The path has been paved for an intense showdown on the House floor. Republicans will need utmost solidarity among their razor-thin majority to refer the president’s son to the Justice Department. If they manage to navigate their way there, the decision to slap Hunter Biden, who is already embroiled in two criminal cases, with new charges will ultimately rest in the hands of the DOJ.
