A whopping $46.5 billion has been earmarked for the construction and upgrade of the border wall. This incredibly expensive line of defense is what border officials consistently argue is necessary. The number of border crossings has been down, but this doesn’t mean the battle is anywhere close to being over. Officials maintain that the fence is the magic wand that works wonders, putting our minds and hearts at ease, while it stands as a blaring symbol of national security—after all, nothing screams safety quite like a steel barrier.
In addition to building the wall, this mammoth bill also addresses the cramped conditions many illegal immigrants find themselves in. Thanks to $45 billion set aside for single adult detention and family residential centers, the days of excuses like “we have nowhere to house them” could soon be behind us. Think about that for a second—plush accommodations labeled “temporary” are set to become the holding pens for those who attempt to bypass our entry laws. These facilities affectionately dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” will be the stopover for the presumed villains before they’re shown the door.
But wait, there’s more! Another nearly $30 billion aims to empower our immigration officers with training, technology, and transportation. With precise planning, these resources are designed to help tackle the estimated 400,000 criminal illegal aliens reportedly lurking within our borders. Last but not least, $4 billion is allocated for the hiring and training of fresh faces in the Border Patrol Agent ranks, ensuring that vigilant eyes remain fixed on that southern horizon.
In summary, this gigantic bill seeks to substantially bolster the Department of Homeland Security on all fronts. However, let’s not forget that there’s an elephant in the room wearing disastrous policies like a crown during the prior administration. Red tape and lack of resources drained the morale out of our trusted officers. Now the promise of resources and a fortified strategy holds the potential for a renaissance where ICE officers can finally march with dignity and a sense of authority. Everything’s starting to look a little rosier—trade in those hollow promises for a hefty investment, and maybe, just maybe, the notion of “Making America Safe Again” will become more than just a catchy slogan.
