ICE Detains Truck Driver in Fatal Collision Tragedy

It seems like the Biden administration’s border policies have created yet another chaotic situation, further endangering the lives of innocent Americans. We find ourselves again grappling with the harsh reality of a broken system that allowed a truck driver, with a very questionable immigration status, to operate a massive vehicle and bring about a devastating tragedy. The crash in Indiana, where four members of the Amish community lost their lives, is not just an accident; it’s a reflection of policy failures that seem to prioritize political correctness over public safety.

Bezan Bashik, a 30-year-old from Kazakhstan, reportedly entered the U.S. using the Biden administration’s CBP1 app. It’s a tool that’s practically handing out access as if it were candy at a parade. Bashik managed to secure a commercial driver’s license from Pennsylvania—yes, you read that correctly, a CDL—in a country he simply waltzed into under lax regulations. And now, due to this outlandish leniency, four innocent men are gone, and another fights for his life in critical condition.

This isn’t a lone incident, either. Marcus Coleman, a father grappling with the lifelong consequences of an earlier disaster, reminds us this is a pattern. His daughter, Dalia, fell victim to another illegal immigrant truck driver, highlighting a troubling pattern that has resulted in nothing but heartache and injury. The long-term implications on Marcus’s family paint a vivid picture of how these policies have genuine, life-altering impacts.

Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania has rushed to assure people that Bashik’s status was legal when he was handed that powerful truck-driving license. However, legality does not always equal safety or wisdom, as has been shown time and again. Instead of reflecting on this, there are deflections—pointing fingers across state lines as if this crash happened because of someone else’s moral shortcomings.

Thankfully, in this case, Indiana—a state that still respects law enforcement’s role in immigration—did the right thing by cooperating with federal authorities. The truck driver has been detained and is now in federal custody. It’s a small consolation in the face of such loss, but at least it’s some attempt at accountability in a saga marked by too little, too late.
