Washington’s immediate silence and the usual measured statements are unacceptable when a state broadcaster is calling on civilians to kill Americans on sight; the White House and Pentagon must do more than issue vague condemnations. Commanders and policymakers should prioritize rapid, coordinated recovery and deterrent actions that protect personnel and dissuade further Iranian escalation, while signaling that attacks on U.S. forces will be met with decisive consequence.
