Israeli Hostages: Reuters’ Odd Choice of Words Revealed

On Saturday night, Hamas finally released the second group of hostages they had taken back on October 7. It was a bit delayed, but better late than never, right? The group included 13 Israelis and four Thai nationals. Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Reuters, in all their genius, decided to describe these people as “13 more Israeli soldiers.” Oops! Someone must have forgotten to check their facts. Of course, they quickly made a “CORRECTION” and referred to them as “Israeli hostages.” Much better.

But it’s not just Reuters who can’t get their story straight. Even Ireland’s Leo Varadkar got in on the confusion. He claimed that a 9-year-old girl, Emily Hand, was among the released hostages. He painted a picture of “an innocent child who was lost has now been found and returned.” Talk about drama! Maybe he should stick to politics and leave the storytelling to the professionals.

Now, here’s the real kicker. Despite all the negotiations and praise for President Joe Biden’s involvement, not a single American hostage was released. Seriously, what’s going on here? I thought Biden was supposed to be the great negotiator. Even The New York Times had to point out the obvious, stating, “No U.S. hostages are expected to be released in the next round.” Way to go, Mr. President. Your “hopeful” words really paid off.

This whole hostage situation is a mess. It’s a reminder of the dangers we face from terrorist groups like Hamas. They shouldn’t be called “Palestinian militant group.” Let’s call it what it is: terrorism. And let’s not forget the unreliable numbers coming from “Palestinian health authorities.” We can’t trust a word they say. It’s time to see some real action and get American hostages out of harm’s way. That’s what leadership looks like.
