On Wednesday, the Democratic mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, Donna Deegan, made the shocking announcement that the “Tribute to the Women of the Southern Confederacy” statue in the city had been removed from Springfield Park. This statue had been standing tall in the park since 1915, and now, because of the woke agenda, it’s been torn down like a rotten tree in a hurricane.

In her statement, Mayor Deegan claimed that the removal of the statue was not about erasing history, but rather about showing that “we’ve learned from it.” What a load of hogwash! The only thing Deegan and her crew have “learned” is how to push their radical, left-wing agenda on the good people of Jacksonville.
The audacity! Deegan had the nerve to say, “Symbols matter. They tell the world what we stand for and what we aspire to be. By removing the confederate monument from Springfield Park, we signal a belief in our shared humanity. That we are all created equal. The same flesh and bones.
The removal of the statue has sparked outrage from Republicans like state Rep. Dean Black, who represents a neighboring district to Jacksonville. Black called Deegan’s actions an “abuse of power” and accused her of hiding under the cover of night to carry out this egregious act.
Deegan’s team tried to justify the removal by claiming that it didn’t require approval from the City Council because the funds came from outside sources. What a cop-out! Using private funds to justify tearing down history is just another example of the left’s underhanded tactics. Mayor Deegan may think she can hide behind legal jargon, but the people of Jacksonville see right through her charade.
