These young migrants, some of whom were already comfortably buckled in on planes, were halted from their journey home at the eleventh hour. The judge involved in this case, appointed by none other than President Biden, seems to have taken it upon herself to play the role of legal guardian angel.
Of course, this decision doesn’t sit well with everyone. The Trump administration, advocating for the return of these minors to their parents in Guatemala, points out the absurdity of the interference. On one hand, they argue that they are simply trying to reunite families, a sentiment usually championed by both sides of the aisle. On the other hand, critics claim that this move breaches U.S. laws and could potentially place children at risk. But isn’t the whole system built on ensuring that children aren’t left unaccompanied in the first place?
