In a move we could have seen coming, liberal dreams of state control just got a big helping hand from a San Francisco judge. Once again, the left is flexing its judicial muscles to undermine President Trump, who dared to take decisive action amid chaos in Los Angeles. What’s more important—the safety of our communities or the egos of California officials who seem more interested in political grandstanding than genuine leadership?
Judge Charles R. Breyer, whose ties to the Clinton era should raise more than a few eyebrows, has just ordered Trump to hand back control of the California National Guard to Governor Gavin Newsom. Why? Because apparently, stepping in to manage a state’s National Guard to prevent anarchy is now deemed neither legal nor constitutional. Funny, isn’t it, how the protection of our nation’s borders against unchecked protests is brushed aside like an unwelcome dinner guest?

The judge ruled that the federalization of the guard was illegal. The administration’s reliance on century-old statutes was mocked by the left as overreach. But here’s the irony: the very people crying about federal infringement are perfectly okay with sanctuary cities thumbing their noses at federal immigration laws. They cry foul if a president ensures laws are executed when they can’t or won’t do it themselves.
Procedural flim-flam or not, it’s truly amusing how quickly liberals shout about violations when the real problem is they weren’t consulted first. Governor Newsom reportedly found out about the federal order via his adjutant general. Yet, this is the same Newsom presiding over a state that’s often on the brink of turning into a socialist petri dish. The Tenth Amendment is suddenly sacred to them, yet isn’t that right to state power reserved as long as it fits their progressive agenda?
At the heart of this is a bizarre love affair Democrats have with states’ rights, only when it suits their narrative. When it came to stopping the rot of lawlessness in L.A., Trump took action. But nope, the federal version of a timeout is not okay. Our safety isn’t a chess piece to be moved around by activist judges whenever it looks like conservatives might win a point.
What’s the real game here? Is it more empty rhetoric? Is it another campaign to weaken federal power after it finally dared to tread on Democrat territory? Whatever it is, it highlights the hypocrisy we’ve come to expect from the left. Make no mistake, folks, we are in a battleground of ideas where common sense must trump judicial activism. Or do liberals have another lawsuit up their sleeve? Stay tuned.
