Vice President Kamala Harris has suddenly found herself cornered by the former President Donald Trump, who has accepted three debate invitations after her relentless accusations of his cowardice. In a twist that even the most die-hard liberal could hardly spin, it appears Harris is more interested in a single debate than the trifecta Trump proposed.
In a Thursday afternoon press conference from his Mar-A-Lago stronghold, Trump laid out his plan for the debates like a kid showing off three shiny toys. He announced that he had managed to negotiate three debates: September 4th on Fox, September 10th on NBC, and September 25th on ABC. Judging by Trump’s enthusiasm, it seems he views these face-offs as an opportunity to showcase his winning personality against a vice president who’s masterfully crafted the art of dodging serious questions.

Harris’ response to Trump’s debate invitations was the equivalent of showing up at a potluck with a single bag of chips. Although she had previously accused Trump of ducking the debates, when push came to shove, she settled for just one event, clearly indicating that all that talk was just for show. Her acceptance of the September 10th debate was announced via her post on X, where she proclaimed excitement at finally facing off against Trump. One has to wonder if she realizes that one date hardly constitutes a showdown.
Despite Harris urging Trump to stick to the terms she believed he committed to during his campaign against President Biden, the Trump campaign dashed any hopes for a straightforward negotiation. They pointed out that Harris needed to come to the table herself, rather than longing for the good old days of backroom deals. This suggests that the vice president’s approach may have confused more than it convinced, leaving her with just one debate as Trump raises the stakes.
As for how the actual debates will unfold, one can only hope they won’t mimic the snooze-fest that ensued during previous encounters. The recent debate between Trump and Biden on CNN was less of a public discussion and more of a choreographed performance, complete with mute buttons for added drama. If Harris thought she could engage in a similar setup, she might want to rethink whether she’s ready to face the man who could turn even the dullest debate into entertainment worthy of prime time. The stage is set, but it remains to be seen if Harris can handle the heat—or if she’ll vanish back to her usual yammering when the spotlight turns bright.
