Bill Melugin has made waves by taking Kamala Harris to task over her lackluster performance on “60 Minutes,” where her responses to significant questions about the border left much to be desired. The interview, conducted by Bill Whitaker, was meant to highlight the administration’s policies and challenges, but instead, it showcased Harris’s inability to handle tough inquiries without resorting to convoluted rhetoric. It’s becoming clearer that Harris is out of her depth when pressed about the administration’s failures.
Whitaker’s questions dug into critical issues, and when he highlighted the quadrupling of border crossings under the Biden administration, Harris’ discomfort was palpable. Her signature evasive tactics resurfaced as she danced around the questions, exchanging facts for word salads while attempting to downplay the crisis at the border. Though she momentarily mentioned her ownership of a Glock, it only added to the skepticism about her credibility on the issue, especially given the administration’s track record on handling border security.
60 Minutes repeatedly asks Harris why the Biden/Harris admin waited 3 years to take executive action to curb illegal crossings. She says they introduced a bill upon taking office (that bill would’ve given given an 8 year path to amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants) then… https://t.co/E3enPl3aTT

What truly raised eyebrows during the interview was the apparent strategic editing that left viewers questioning what critical answers were left on the cutting room floor. This kind of editing creates the impression that there’s much more to the story, likely content that may have further illustrated how the administration has mishandled the border crisis. The air of dishonesty and the lack of accountability reflected in Harris’s responses is hard to ignore.
When pressed about the administration’s three-year delay in taking executive action to stem the tide of illegal crossings, Harris leaned on vague claims that legislation was introduced upon taking office. However, the specifics reveal the insincerity of this argument; the proposed bill largely amounted to a promise of an eight-year path to amnesty, rather than a real effort to secure borders. Instead of owning the fruits of their inaction, she deflected blame onto Trump, despite the fact that this administration only started addressing the issue after the consequences became too dire to ignore.
Perhaps the most astonishing part of her narrative was the focus on “gotaways,” a term referring to individuals who entered the U.S. undetected. The figures are staggering—over 1.9 million in three years, eclipsing those from the previous decade. While the administration touted the border as being “secure,” the reality couldn’t be more different. The ongoing crisis, compounded by the Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to address the issue substantively, raises serious doubts about Harris’s capability to lead on national security matters.
The disparity between Harris’ portrayal of a secure border and the stark reality on the ground should not be overlooked. Under the previous administration, efforts to secure the border faced fierce opposition from Democrats, yet progress was made. With the Biden-Harris team now ensconced in power, the border crisis has spiraled, and the excuses have reached a new level of absurdity. If Harris cannot provide coherent answers to straightforward questions about her record and her administration’s approach, her position should indeed raise alarms about her fitness for office. The lack of accountability, coupled with a refusal to face the truth, is precisely what makes the future of the Democratic Party so uncertain.
