Kamala Harris has mastered the art of disappearing, and she’s proven it once again by jetting off to Hawaii right after getting handed a serious defeat at the polls. While conservative voters were loudly backing President-elect Donald Trump, the Vice President seemed to take her loss as a cue to hit the beach. Leaving many of her Democratic colleagues scratching their heads, Harris, alongside her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, decided it was time for a vacation, although most would argue it’s just a perfect escape from real accountability.
The White House has gone into damage control mode, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre leaping to Harris’ defense. According to her, the Vice President deserves a little R&R and spending time with family is totally acceptable. Just what every hardworking American wants to hear after a rough election cycle—your government leaders are relaxing in paradise while you’re stuck dealing with the consequences of their policies. One has to wonder how many middle-class families could afford such a luxurious getaway after the economic rollercoaster the Biden administration has put them on.

Despite the sun-soaked getaway, the timing couldn’t be worse for Harris, who has cut her vacation short if need be to deal with judicial appointments. While she’s sunbathing, Senate Democrats are scrambling to confirm President Biden’s judicial picks before the clock runs out. An aide to Harris insists she’ll be ready to jump back into the political fray at a moment’s notice, showcasing the typical last-minute hustle and bustle of Democratic leadership—as if they’re prepping for an emergency instead of planning diligently in advance.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer seems eager to push through as many judges as possible in this so-called “lame duck” period. He’s ready to pull out all the stops to bypass any Republican opposition, as though the Senate chamber is an arcade machine and he’s just inserting quarters to keep the game going. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren echoed the urgency, championing the idea of filling every judicial vacancy, as if that would somehow solve the myriad issues the American people face.
Trump, meanwhile, is not idly sitting by as this judicial flurry unfolds. He’s been vocal on social media, urging Republican senators to block any last-minute confirmations. This could potentially set the stage for contentious debates as the party gears up for what many hope will be a revitalization in the coming years. Political theater aside, it seems the Democrats are tuning out the reality of their electoral defeats and are instead focused on filling the courts—likely to ensure their leftist agenda remains intact despite the will of the voters. As Harris enjoys her tropical vacation, one can only hope she savors the sun, because the political storm awaiting her return is undoubtedly going to be a doozy.
