Kamala Harris Scrambles to Rebrand as Moderate Amid Biden Exit and Scrutiny

Kamala Harris has found herself propelled to the forefront of the Democratic presidential ticket, all thanks to President Joe Biden’s decision to exit his 2024 campaign. This unexpected ascension has provided plenty of fodder for her media allies, who have been busy scrubbing her far-left past and attempting to gloss over her numerous failures during her 2020 run. It appears they believe that if they clean up Harris’ record enough, she might just pass for a moderate to unsuspecting voters.

The so-called “fact-checkers” at PolitiFact seem to be standing ready to act as Harris’ loyal defenders. The outlet has made quite the show of rewriting the narrative around her positions, all while banking on that great American tradition: the hope that average folks will overlook her leftist leanings and accept that she’s miraculously transformed into a stable moderate. However, history is a pesky thing, and some of her past declarations still linger, no matter how the media tries to sweep them under the rug.

Take her infamous commentary in 2019, where she championed mandatory gun buyback programs. Many might recall those remarks as controversial, yet PolitiFact hilariously attempts to downplay this aspect of her record by asserting she has merely shifted focus after becoming vice president. In a classic dance of political gymnastics, they spin her call for mandatory buybacks into a story about her “priorities,” as if this serves as anything close to an exoneration for her previous stance.

Similarly, Harris has been repeatedly accused of sowing discord in the realm of public safety. Pundits have cited her prior calls for “reimagining” policing, a phrase that has become code among the left for envisioning a world without law enforcement as it currently stands. Yet again, PolitiFact mischaracterizes the situation, telling a tale of her not explicitly demanding the closure of police departments. The real question remains: how many layers of spin does it take to convince voters she’s on their side?

As Harris travels the campaign trail, she makes grand promises to resolve a range of issues, all while conveniently glossing over her role in the Biden administration’s handling of these very problems for the past four years. When facing scrutiny, her campaign could easily be deflated with a trio of straightforward inquiries: What’s been accomplished in your tenure? Has life actually improved since you assumed office? And for the love of the American electorate, can you cite a single tangible achievement from your two-decade career in politics?

With Harris in the spotlight, it has become increasingly clear that the left’s penchant for rebranding candidates may fly successfully under the radar of the uninformed, but for the sharp-eyed voter, the truth remains glaringly visible. This electoral season, one thing is evident: the more Harris attempts to distance herself from her past, the more glaring that past becomes.
