Former Vice President Kamala Harris recently graced “The View” with her presence to reflect on her loss in the 2024 presidential election. It appears that her defeat has left her with a sense of grief akin to losing a loved one. But let’s be honest – losing an election doesn’t quite hold a candle to such personal tragedies for most of us. According to Harris, the real tragedy was the supposed lack of time to communicate what she stood for. Apparently, a few extra days would have made all the difference. If only it were that simple!
Throughout her interview, one thing became evident: the former vice president didn’t grasp exactly why the public disapproved of her candidacy. There was no reflection on the barrage of gaffes, her uneasiness in high-pressure situations, or the erratic political stance-shifting that confused even her staunchest supporters. The idea that she just needed more time is a bit like suggesting that if you just leave an omelet in the pan a little longer, it might turn into a gourmet meal. If your ingredients are off, no amount of time is going to fix that recipe.
Harris also reassured viewers that there was absolutely no distinction between her policies and those of her former running mate, Joe Biden. This revelation didn’t exactly come as a shock, but it highlighted a surprising lack of critical self-awareness. Knowing that the American public craved a change from the status quo, clinging to an unpopular administration’s coat-tails seems more like a strategic misfire than loyalty. People generally appreciate knowing what, if anything, distinguishes one leader from another. It’s called providing a choice, not a repeat.
But perhaps the most eyebrow-raising moment was when Harris unveiled her crisis management skills, or the lack thereof. She shared tales of decisions made late at night over a pork roast, suggesting that this was as practical as it gets. Maybe it wasn’t the best moment to discuss your decision-making process when folks were hoping for something a tad more presidential.
Despite having a platform to elucidate the thought process behind her decisions and the beliefs she holds dear, the interview felt more like a list of grievances and missed opportunities. Instead of seizing the moment to inspire or promote accountability, it seemed like an exercise in offloading responsibility onto everyone but herself. It makes one wonder if Harris believes that hindsight is only 20/20 if you squint hard enough while looking in the completely wrong direction.
All in all, Harris’s appearance suggested she is not quite ready to shoulder the mantle of leadership or to reckon with the realities of political life. Meanwhile, voters have moved on, swinging ever further away from candidates who mirror the same old political rhetoric and instead, looking for voices that at least attempt to sing a different tune. Perhaps next time, if Kamala Harris decides to run again, she’ll bring a clearer vision—and a ladle for all that word salad.
