Vice President Kamala Harris seems determined to make voters question their support for her as she heads into the final stretch of the election campaign. When it looked like things couldn’t get any more awkward for her and the Harris-Walz ticket, they somehow managed to raise the bar for political tone-deafness over the weekend. In what could only be described as a political car crash, Harris decided to focus her energy on releasing her medical records, a move that inadvertently became an opportunity to take jabs at Donald Trump. Unfortunately, this brilliant strategy seems to have missed the mark, as public sentiment might be more concerned about Joe Biden’s declining faculties than Trump’s health.
Despite Harris’s attempt to spotlight her medical records in a bid for transparency, the optics were horrid. The irony is hard to miss when one remembers that Harris spent years covering for Biden, who doesn’t exactly glow with youth and vigor, before finally having to admit the obvious: the American people are increasingly worried about his mental acuity. The vice president’s clumsy attempts to divert attention toward Trump’s health simply came off as an act of desperation, especially given that her own team’s data suggests that the public views her as complicit in Biden’s failings.

As the political landscape becomes increasingly fraught with tension, reports indicate that the relationship between the Biden and Harris teams is reaching a boiling point. Harris isn’t just the vice president; she’s inherently tied to the administration that is falling apart at the seams. Instead of crafting her own narrative, she seems to be stuck on a treadmill, repeatedly declaring how different she is while failing to articulate any genuine policies or positions that might differentiate her from the slumping president. To add insult to injury, when directly asked about doing anything differently than Biden, Harris encountered what some might call a mental roadblock, leaving her proposed uniqueness in shambles.
At a time when political savvy demands effective distancing from an unpopular administration, Harris finds herself shackled to Biden’s faltering brand. One could imagine extensive brainstorming sessions among campaign advisors, who have subsequently concluded that a little more Biden is just what Americans want. Little did they know that voters are eyeing this non-candidate who simply strolled into her current position after a series of unfortunate events in the primaries. Instead of allowing herself the freedom to break the mold, she only puts herself deeper into the grasp of the very administration she should be trying to escape.
To make matters worse, amid her efforts to criticize Trump for a perceived lack of transparency, Harris finds herself caught in a web of hypocrisy. Comments directed at Trump’s avoidance of media appearances echo back to Harris’s own lackluster interview presence. Even friendly media outlets are starting to take note of her inability to connect with voters, suggesting her approach is more “playing it safe” than displaying true leadership. The sheer nerve it takes for her to question Trump’s health while dismissing Biden’s cognitive issues might soon have voters wishing for a rewind button on the political roulette wheel.
As if that weren’t enough, Harris even attempted to cash in on alleged fears about Trump’s capabilities, questioning why his team supposedly wants him to “hideaway.” Hilariously, she did this while failing to celebrate public receptions to her own words and recognizing that she is, in fact, still the sitting vice president who has failed to take decisive action regarding the presidency’s well-being. Who thought that Kamala Harris would become the face of cognitive dissonance during an election cycle? You can’t make this stuff up, yet here they are, strutting their gaffe-laden campaign across various friendly platforms, hoping for a miracle—even considering an appearance on Fox News! Talk about throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
As the campaign moves forward and polling numbers show Harris trailing behind Trump even in a contest for notoriously blue states, she might want to reconsider her strategy. It appears that health-related jabs are not boosting her popularity; they are merely drawing attention to her own weaknesses. One must wonder how long the show can last before voters finally call time and demand more than just empty rhetoric wrapped in strange finger gestures.
