The latest attempt by Kamala Harris to gain some political traction through a Zoom appearance with Oprah Winfrey has unearthed yet another embarrassing snafu. In the age of technology, one might expect a little bit of polish, but it seems the Vice President and her celebrity sidekick may have delivered anything but. If Harris and Winfrey were trying to paint a picture of energized support, they might want to consider investing in a better camera crew—or at least a few more actual supporters.
This clumsy display underscored a feeling that has become all too familiar regarding Harris’s approach: a reliance on star power rather than substance. The campaign appears to be an exercise in invoking feelings over actions, focusing on whether everyone’s “vibe” is right rather than getting down to the hard-hitting issues that affect everyday Americans. With rising grocery prices and ongoing economic struggles weighing heavily on voters’ minds, Harris’s celebrity-studded strategy seems utterly disconnected from reality.
The reality is that Kamala Harris is the one in office and the one responsible for the current state of affairs that leaves many Americans wondering how they will make ends meet. It doesn’t matter how she tries to repackage herself as a joyful “change agent”—the stark reality of her track record proves otherwise. With every attempt to flip-flop and reinvent her image, she only tightens the grip of public skepticism about her capabilities. It’s no surprise that Tim Walz’s observation about not being able to afford another four years of this administration has struck a chord.
In a time when voters crave genuine leadership, the political theatrics of Kamala Harris and her celebrity friends simply won’t cut it. The repeated faces on the screen tell a broader story: an administration out of touch and desperately trying to mask its failures with glitz and glamour. When the focus should be on accountability and real solutions, it appears that the Vice President’s strategy amounts to little more than a flashy performance that leaves many wanting to tune out entirely.
