Kamala Harris’s Surprising Move That Californians Didn’t See Coming

Kamala Harris, former presidential hopeful and current political punchline, is reportedly eyeing a run for governor of California. One would think her previous failures would make her reconsider, but no, she’s once again ready to throw her hat into the ring. Democrat insiders whisper that she’s considering jumping into the already packed race. The likes of Antonio Villaraigosa and Xavier Becerra are already in the fray, both far more in touch with California issues than Harris, who’s been decidedly absent since Trump took office.

It’s baffling how some Democrats are still trying to prop up Harris, hoping she might “do the most good.” They seem to forget the massive lack of enthusiasm she’s left in her wake. People in California—even die-hard liberals—are tired of elected officials who act more like celebrities than public servants. It’s been more than a few years since Harris has offered any meaningful solutions for the Golden State, yet here she is, eyes on the prize. Why? Maybe it’s the allure of more power, or perhaps it’s just another feather for her cap in the compliant media world she’s so fond of.

Folks in California are not lining up to support Harris. She famously became the Democratic nominee without a real primary, a move that stifled choice and flew in the face of democracy. Does California really want a leader chosen by insiders rather than the voice of the people? It’s déjà vu all over again, and the voters aren’t buying what Harris is selling. Previous polls indicate she doesn’t have much love in the state compared to other Democrats—or should we say, her “competition”?

Residents have voiced their frustration. They actually want solutions to their problems, not just polished speeches and vacant promises. So far, Harris has made it more about herself than the pressing issues facing California today. Do we really want someone who has been mostly MIA on local issues suddenly jumping in when it suits her political ambition? It smacks of opportunism, not public service.

Kamala Harris needs to ask herself: Is she really running for the people of California, or just for herself? With the state in need of solid leadership, a Harris governorship seems more like a liberal fantasy than a practical solution. California deserves better than to be a stepping stone for another political retread.
