Recent calls from the political left to scrap the American Constitution have caught many conservatives by surprise. One prominent figure leading this charge is Prof. Erwin Chemirinsky from the University of California, Berkeley. In his new book, he argues that the Constitution no longer serves the nation and should be discarded entirely.
For years, liberals have utilized the Constitution to advance their agendas, often touting it as a “living” document that can adapt to modern times. However, Chemirinsky takes a starkly different approach, labeling the Constitution as fundamentally flawed due to its origins and structure. He criticizes aspects such as the Electoral College, Senate composition, gerrymandering, and Supreme Court appointments.

Furthermore, Chemirinsky’s arguments fail to address the underlying moral and societal divisions driving contemporary political polarization. By advocating for sweeping constitutional changes, he overlooks the need for genuine dialogue and understanding across ideological lines. True progress requires unity and shared values, not radical upheaval of longstanding institutions.
In the face of these challenges, conservatives must remain vigilant in defending the principles enshrined in the Constitution. While dialogue and reform are essential in a dynamic society, proposals to discard the Constitution altogether represent a reckless and shortsighted approach to governance. Protecting the integrity of the Constitution is paramount in preserving the liberties and values that define America.
