In the latest episode of “As the Liberal World Turns,” our friends on the left have unleashed a fresh frenzy by trotting out yet another buzzword: ethnic cleansing. Yes, it seems deporting criminal illegal aliens now ranks up there with history’s vilest acts. Who knew enforcing immigration laws, a practice that rivals apple pie in its American-ness, would be painted with such a grim brush?
Enter Center Stage: President Trump. His grand crime? Having the audacity to suggest that the rule of law be enforced and that those here illegally—particularly those with rap sheets longer than a CVS receipt—perhaps ought to be sent back to where they came from. It’s a revolutionary concept, we know. But in the theater of the absurd that is progressive politics, suggesting we adhere to laws is akin to heresy.
Of course, the hyperbole doesn’t stop there. Allegations abound about “remigration” being a clandestine strategy to concoct a monochrome America. Remigration, now there’s a ten-dollar word for you. It’s as if they’re trying to credit the administration with spearheading an effort that’s akin to an HGTV home makeover show—only this time, it’s America’s demographic layout they’re claiming is being revamped. Perhaps they need a gentle reminder that playing the race card doesn’t magically make everyone else ignore what’s really going on.
Liberal social media influencers, the stalwarts of enlightened discourse, are fanning the flames by conjuring images of ethnic cleansing without a hint of irony. For them, ICE agents doing their jobs is tantamount to crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, those espousing common sense are accused of fraternizing with the far-right for suggesting, just maybe, that laws are there for a reason. Who’d have thought that following the rules would make headlines as a controversial topic?
Amidst all this pearl-clutching, one can observe a certain comedic undertone. The mainstream media, in their eternal wisdom, have now determined that deploying ICE agents is not just law enforcement; it’s tantamount to waging war on diverse communities. How reminiscent of that time when enforcing speed limits was profiled as an attack on identity. It appears we’re one skydiving giraffe away from the circus running out of acts.
What’s most intriguing is the level of selective outrage displayed by those crying wolf. Deporting criminals apparently equates to ethnic cleansing, yet ironically, the enforcement measures being vilified are nothing new. Both Republican and Democratic predecessors have sung from the very same songbook, albeit with less fanfare. If only consistency were a virtue celebrated by all. Until then, one must keep watch for the next liberal buzzword to hit the scene.
