A liberal federal judge just dealt another blow to American border security. Judge Kathleen Williams ordered the shutdown of Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz detention center in the Everglades. She sided with radical environmental activists over keeping dangerous criminals off our streets. This is exactly what’s wrong with our activist court system.
The facility cost Florida taxpayers over 245 million dollars in just two months of operation. It was built to help President Trump’s deportation efforts after four years of Biden’s open border disaster. Now it’s being emptied because tree-huggers complained about protecting wetlands over protecting Americans. Judge Williams never even visited the site before making her ruling.
Environmental groups sued claiming the detention center violated federal environmental laws. They care more about alligators than stopping human traffickers and gang members. The same people who want to defund police are now shutting down facilities that remove criminals from our communities. They would rather see violent illegals roam free than hurt a single blade of swamp grass.
The timing of this shutdown is no coincidence. Democrats are doing everything possible to sabotage immigration enforcement before the new administration takes full control. They know Americans want stronger border security and mass deportations. So they’re using every dirty trick in the book to keep criminal aliens in our neighborhoods.
State officials are already appealing the judge’s decision to higher courts. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis won’t back down from this fight. The facility was quickly built at an old airport site specifically to help with deportation operations. It was designed to be a temporary solution to a massive immigration crisis.
The judge’s order requires all equipment to be removed within 60 days. Fencing, generators, and lighting all have to go back to where they came from. Meanwhile, the criminals who were supposed to be held there are being moved to other facilities. This just makes the whole deportation process slower and more expensive.
Lawyers for Homeland Security tried to get the judge to pause her shutdown order. They argued it would hurt immigration enforcement efforts across the country. But Williams refused and said the government didn’t prove these detainees were particularly dangerous. Apparently she thinks all illegal aliens are just innocent folks looking for a better life.
This is what happens when liberal judges put politics above public safety. They care more about radical environmental groups than protecting American families. The Alligator Alcatraz shutdown shows exactly why we need conservative judges who will support law and order. Patriots need to keep fighting back against this judicial activism.
