When the government finally cut the cord on public broadcasting, the left lost its mind. They painted a picture of chaos, with crying children clutching their “Sesame Street” dolls and seniors left wailing for reruns of “Antiques Roadshow.” Every liberal pundit in the country suddenly acted like the soul of America depended on taxpayer-funded reruns and crusty panel discussions nobody actually watched. The melodrama was something straight out of a bad soap opera.
But where are the piles of broken televisions in the streets? Where’s the carnage we were promised? The horror stories haven’t materialized. In fact, nobody seems to have noticed much of anything. Average Americans are living their lives just fine without the so-called necessities of government-backed programming. Turns out, the doomsday forecasts amounted to nothing but hot air from the same media class that thinks their bland programming is somehow sacred.

Let’s get real: public broadcasting has always been less about serving the American public and more about serving liberal agendas. Taxpayers have been forced for decades to bankroll woke lectures and globalist puff pieces disguised as “educational content.” When their funding gets slashed, the same people who lecture about “equity” and “fairness” are suddenly worried that the little people won’t hear their message. That’s not public service—that’s self-interest.
If anything, the country should be celebrating. Why should hardworking families in the heartland pay for shows and news segments that look down on their values? Why should small towns fork over their tax dollars so bureaucrats in big cities can keep pushing anti-American narratives? This is yet another example of liberal hypocrisy. They claim to champion the people, but throw a fit the moment their own gravy train is threatened.
The supposed carnage from defunding public broadcasting is missing in action. It’s almost as if these tax-guzzling broadcasters were never essential to begin with. Maybe it’s time the left stopped pretending they speak for America. When given the choice, Americans can decide for themselves what to watch—and they don’t need the government holding their remote.
