Markwayne Mullin: We Fix Biden’s Mess

President Trump is taking decisive action following a harrowing incident on Wednesday. The move involves hitting the pause button on all Afghan immigration applications. The situation is a complex one, made even more so by the history of Operation Allies Welcome. This initiative, launched under the Biden administration, promised the American people that every newcomer was thoroughly screened. Yet here we are, questioning just who made it past those supposedly stringent measures.

The Biden administration defended their vetting process as if they were fortifying Fort Knox. They assured everyone that only well-vetted individuals were entering the country. Strikingly, President Trump has a different view. He appears to think this influx was more like leaving the barn door open. He has referred to the situation as the “Hernandez Airlift from Afghanistan,” with countless individuals flooding into the United States without adequate checks. For many, seeing these issues unfold is less of a surprise and more of an expected consequence of poor management.

Remarkably, Biden’s approach to handling Afghan refugees didn’t come cheap. The estimated cost to the military was a staggering $68 million, a price tag that leaves taxpayers clutching their wallets in disbelief. Senators and prominent figures, including J.D. Vance, have been vocal about the risks of such programs. They argue the priority should have been simple: to assist Afghan allies without compromising national sovereignty or security. The irony here, of course, is rich.

Despite the assurances given, there’s an undeniable worry among many Americans. The fear isn’t irrational. It’s grounded in the stories and numbers popping up in the media. In some narratives, these refugees sound less like vetted friends and more like loose pages blown in from an unfinished book of chaos. Some of these refugees have traveled back and forth between continents, raising eyebrows and questions about their loyalty and intentions.

For President Trump, dealing with the aftermath of Biden’s policies now includes canceling numerous executive orders signed by the previous administration, which were described as “illegally” signed. It’s being billed as a necessary cleanup operation to restore order to an executive branch that, under Biden, may have resembled more of a circus act than a governing body. Trump’s actions are steps towards shaking off the dead weight of past misapplications of power, potentially leading to a leaner and more accountable form of governance. So, where does the buck stop? Evidently, not with those who signed their power away.
