Another day, another horrific mass shooting in one of America’s biggest cities. On Monday evening, a deranged gunman named Shane Tamura stormed into a major Manhattan office building and opened fire on innocent people. The 27-year-old killer from Las Vegas murdered at least six people, including a brave off-duty police officer working security.
This attack happened at 345 Park Avenue, home to some of America’s biggest companies like the NFL headquarters and Blackstone financial firm. Tamura came armed with an AR-15 style rifle and body armor, showing this was planned and premeditated. He shot the security guard outside, then rampaged through the building terrorizing workers who had to barricade themselves with office furniture.
Our incredible first responders rushed to the scene as soon as the shooting started around 6:30 PM. The NYPD, FDNY, and FBI all responded within minutes to save as many lives as possible. Two police officers were wounded in the line of duty trying to stop this monster.
The coward Tamura eventually cornered himself on the 33rd floor and took his own life rather than face justice. He killed six innocent Americans and wounded six more before ending his pathetic existence. This is what evil looks like when it decides to target defenseless people at work.
What makes this even more disturbing is that Tamura had a legal concealed carry permit from Nevada. Law-abiding gun owners follow the rules and protect their communities. This criminal chose to ignore every law and moral boundary to commit mass murder.
The heroes in this story are the first responders who ran toward danger and the security officer who died trying to protect others. While politicians will surely use this tragedy to attack our Second Amendment rights, the real problem is criminals who choose violence. Good guys with guns save lives every day.
Manhattan office workers shouldn’t have to worry about armed terrorists storming their workplace. This building housed major American companies and should have been a safe place for people to earn an honest living. Instead, families are now planning funerals because one sick individual decided to commit evil.
Our prayers go out to all the victims and their families during this difficult time. We must never let these cowards win by living in fear, but we also cannot ignore the growing violence in our cities. America deserves better than this senseless bloodshed.
