The state of America’s borders has taken a dramatic turn recently, with policies aimed at fortifying national security and immigration control gaining momentum. Last month, under strong leadership, unprecedented measures were taken to reduce illegal border crossings to zero. A new initiative has ushered in what some are calling “Alligator Alcatraz,” an advanced ICE detention facility built in the Florida Everglades, and funded by a massive $45 billion boost. Despite the clear focus on law and order, Democrats continue to demonize these efforts, slinging accusations that are not only unfounded but, truthfully, quite absurd.
ICE agents are facing relentless assaults, with the number of attacks skyrocketing by 690%. Democrats, instead of standing with our brave agents, seem more concerned about inflating fears and conjuring images of agents acting as if they’re from a 1960s spy novel rather than focusing on the harsh realities our officers deal with daily. One might find it ironically humorous if it weren’t for the dangerous implications of such rhetoric on public safety and morale.
To underscore the investment in law enforcement, the buildup includes 10,000 new officers and essential support staff, all focused on processing illegal immigrants and ensuring due process. These efforts aim to address illegal activities and deport those with criminal backgrounds swiftly. Yet, in a twist of logic, the narrative from some quarters argues for defending the indefensible, crying out for due process for individuals who, by definition of their illegal entry, have already waived that entitlement.
The criticism emerges loudest from those who seem keen to obscure the stark truths. Illegal immigration, despite misguided romanticism, isn’t a victimless crime. For the law-abiding citizens, particularly black and Hispanic communities residing here legally, each illegal entrant represents a possible job taken, a resource stretched, and a law potentially broken. Fortunately, the tide is turning as the Republican party continues to make meaningful strides to address these issues squarely, drawing in support from unexpected quarters.
Today’s political landscape is vastly different from the one in 2016. With remarkable strides in policy and funding, there’s a concerted effort to address the festering issue of illegal immigration. As larger segments of minority communities begin seeing the benefit of these policies, the opposition is left grasping at increasingly tenuous arguments. It appears difficult to reconcile their ongoing battle when the facts and national sentiment are veering toward greater security and accountability. National security and border integrity are issues that increasingly transcend partisan lines.
