House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) has accused Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of favoring Mexico over the US. Green said Mayorkas has regularly ignored House committee invitations to testify in favor of entertaining Mexican officials, which Green sees as favoring Mexico over America.
Green lamented Mayorkas's failure to testify before the committee, saying, "It is profoundly concerning that Secretary Mayorkas has ignored the Committee's many requests to appear before a co-equal arm of government. We have worked with his office for months to get his testimony before the Committee so the American people can learn about the origins, expenses, and effects of the unprecedented border crisis."
The congressman said it was “telling” that the secretary rejected calls to meet with the House committee to meet with Mexican officials instead.

Green stressed Mayorkas's alleged favoritism of Mexican officials over the House committee, saying, "Again, this Secretary prioritizes Mexico before the American people. He seems to need reminding that Congress is a co-equal body of government and that our Committee, not Mexico, oversees his department."
Mayorkas refused to testify on a specific date despite his promise. This denial has escalated House committee-Mayorkas tensions, prompting dereliction of duty claims and an impeachment attempt.
Republicans are scrutinizing Mayorkas's border crisis management, reflecting partisan differences. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) argues that investigating alleged desertion of duty is not a serious criminal or misdemeanor. This fight highlights the growing political rift over immigration policy and DHS's role.
