Mccarthy Finds “Common Ground” Following First Debt Ceiling Conversation With Biden

After meeting with Joe Biden, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California said that they had a positive talk about the possibility of raising the country's debt ceiling.

The two men agreed to continue talking about the issue. McCarthy noted that they have an opportunity to reach an agreement before the deadline.

Although he refused to provide details about the possible cuts that would be included in the agreement, McCarthy noted that the two discussed various ideas.

He also noted that he doesn't think they will be able to reach an agreement with the other members of Congress.

When asked about his trip to Taiwan, McCarthy noted that China would not be able to tell him where he should go.

Press secretary for the White House, Jean-Pierre, expressed her sympathy to McCarthy. He was attending a conference where various experts discussed the debt ceiling issue.

During her briefing, Jean-Pierre noted that the White House was aware of the situation regarding McCarthy. She noted that the House Republican caucus had presented various extreme ideas. These include cutting Medicare and Social Security.
