The recent news story out of New Jersey is a heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of a broken immigration system. Here we have an individual with a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt, including domestic violence and multiple DUIs, now accused of killing an innocent woman and her daughter. It’s almost as if warnings were blaring, but they were somehow muted by the misguided policies of certain city leaders. And who do we have to thank for this dangerous delinquency? Sanctuary city policies. Instead of turning over illegal immigrants with criminal records to federal authorities like ICE, these policies shield them, ultimately leaving communities more vulnerable.
Kevin, during the broadcast, emphasized the frustration many feel when these preventable tragedies occur. Such incidents are not isolated events but rather predictable outcomes when there is a lack of cooperation at the local level to enforce federal immigration laws. The administration has expressed its commitment to addressing these issues, advocating stronger enforcement and more ICE agents on the streets to ensure public safety. It’s hard to fathom why some leaders would choose sanctuary policies over citizen safety, but that’s the world we find ourselves in.
At the helm of this discussion are those who argue, like the mayor of Los Angeles, that enforcing immigration laws somehow carries a racist undertone, as if law enforcement is merely a game of appearances. Meanwhile, over 70% of illegal immigrants arrested during the current administration have criminal convictions or pending charges. These are not just harmless individuals looking for a better life; they include some of the worst offenders. Yet, they often walk freely among us, protected by a policy that seems more concerned with being politically correct than effectively ensuring public safety.
On the flip side, when it comes to immigration, it is crucial to separate the legal from the illegal. Legal immigration should be a pillar of American society, strengthening our nation and enriching our culture. However, illegal immigration hampers these benefits and grossly undermines the very structure that aims to support lawful entrants. Suggesting there’s no difference between the two is a tactic used by some on the left to blur the lines and distract from the real issues at hand.
Thankfully, the administration has rolled out initiatives intended to encourage self-deportation for those here illegally, offering incentives to leave voluntarily and opportunities for legal reentry. This offer is generous, considering the circumstances, and a measured step towards addressing the illegal immigration dilemma without burdening the American taxpayer. Immigrants who wish to be a part of the American dream are encouraged to do so legally, aligning with American laws and values, rather than circumventing them.
