In what seems to be a grim echo of “Groundhog Day,” cities like Portland and Chicago are once again at the forefront of violent protests and chaos. This time, radical anti-ICE demonstrators have brought their stage to America’s streets, turning peaceful neighborhoods into veritable war zones. Yet, stunningly, Democratic leaders in these areas remain blissfully complacent, refusing federal help and denying the severity of what’s happening right in front of their noses. Apparently, they have no issue believing their own spin, even when faced with overwhelming evidence of violence.
Imagine the scene: over 100 days of relentless assaults against ICE facilities in Portland, with mind-boggling denials of the situation by local leaders. The Governor of Illinois and the Attorney General in Portland have boldly claimed there’s no need for military intervention and have downplayed the riots as mere figments of a presidential fantasy. Anyone with a TV—or a pulse—can see otherwise. One can only wonder if the decision-makers are donning rose-tinted glasses or if they need a nudge to step into reality.
Meanwhile, in the face of increasing hostility, Homeland Security personnel and ICE agents are becoming regular targets of these well-coordinated attacks. You’d think having gangs, cartels, and foreign terrorist organizations actively placing bounties on law enforcement officials would send shivers down anyone’s spine. Yet, the silence from Democratic leaders is deafening, with the trust of the public hanging by a spindly thread. They’re giving cover to those causing chaos while accusing the Trump administration of being delusional. It’s an impressive display of rhetorical gymnastics, if nothing else.
The situation has escalated to the point where agents in Chicago were cornered and attacked with vehicles and firearms, having their lives threatened on duty. Yet, the mainstream narrative from some left-leaning corners is that this is a mere figment of imagination or even worse, a smear campaign from conservatives. Try telling that to the officers who dodge bullets while trying to protect their communities. For a bunch that flaunts inclusivity and compassion, they sure have an odd way of showing it to their own law enforcement.
In the midst of this mayhem, there is a silver lining—brave ICE agents and officers committed to securing our streets who continue to serve with integrity despite hostile opposition. These agents, often working in challenging conditions, stand fast in the protection of law and order. Their commitment is inspiring, while city officials drown in a cocktail of denial and wishful thinking. It may be time for some of these politicians to take a field trip to the real world before their approval ratings disappear entirely. As radical protesters strive to dismantle the order, thank goodness there are still folks out there who refuse to let our cities succumb to chaos.
