Northern Border Crisis Balloons as Southern Issues Persist Under Biden Admin

The ongoing border crisis continues to escalate, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. According to the Pew Research Center, the U.S. Border Patrol had nearly 250,000 run-ins with illegal aliens attempting to invade the country through the southern border just last year. The numbers tell a shocking story, with over 200,000 monthly encounters occurring on 10 occasions since 2020. This kind of traffic hasn’t been seen since March 2000, making one wonder if American sovereignty has become a relic of the past.

While much of the media’s focus is glued to the southern border, something sinister is brewing in the north. Fox News recently highlighted an unprecedented uptick in illegal crossings at the Swanton Sector, that idyllic stretch connecting Vermont to Quebec. In fact, apprehensions in this sector have ballooned to 15,000 in just the first ten months of the 2024 fiscal year. This shocking figure eclipses the previous 13 years combined. It’s almost as if the northern border is an open invitation for illegal entry, as over 14,000 more apprehensions have occurred compared to FY 2021.

An astonishing 85 different countries have seen their nationals trying their luck at crossing into the U.S. through this border. While progressives may downplay the issue, these apprehensions indicate that the crisis isn’t confined to just one border; it’s a nationwide phenomenon. With almost 190,000 migrants caught at the southern border in FY 2023 alone and 162,865 nabbed at the Canadian border this year, it’s clear that illegal entry into the United States is thriving and spreading like a bad rumor in a high school hallway.

One of the most disturbing revelations is the potential threat posed by known or suspected terrorists. Between 2021 and 2023, about 1,100 such individuals attempted to cross from Canada into the U.S. This statistic represents a sizable percentage of the total 1,700 KSTs apprehended nationwide since FY 2021, making it a major concern for national security. Yet, the Biden administration continues to battle the perception that they’re not doing enough to secure our borders as they unveil plans to expedite the processing of illegal aliens at the southern border once again.

Just last month, reports surfaced detailing human smuggling operations spanning from Michigan to Ontario, with authorities finally scrambling to tackle this burgeoning problem. The Roxham Road crossing, once a popular path for asylum seekers, has shut down permanently due to overwhelming numbers. The situation is dire, and if one agent is to be believed, the historic surge in irregular crossings at the northern border is getting shockingly overlooked while everyone’s heads are turned toward the south. In an age where common sense seems in short supply, the notion of security at America’s borders should not only be taken seriously, but it should also be job one.
