Barack Obama is playing hard to get with Kamala Harris, and the reason is as clear as day: he doesn’t think she can take down Donald Trump. Following the surprise announcement of Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race (a move that’s been long overdue, given his performance), Obama released a letter that has left many Democrats mumbling into their lattes. It appears he’d rather play coy than throw his weight behind the vice president, who now leads the Democratic charge, mostly because there’s no one else available who isn’t a complete disaster.
Inside sources close to the Biden family have revealed a bombshell: Obama is reportedly “very upset” with the idea of Harris as the candidate because, in his estimation, she’s more likely to trip over her own shoelaces than score a victory against Trump. The former president, once the golden boy of the Democratic Party, is apparently not convinced that Harris has what it takes to swing the battleground states that will decide this election. After all, calling herself the “border czar” without ever stepping foot near the actual border is a unique brand of incompetence.

Without Biden’s charisma, or whatever was left of it, Democrats are now huddling behind Harris like they’re in a game of political dodgeball, hoping they don’t get hit by the incoming Trump cannonball. While many party elites are rallying behind her, Obama’s absence from the endorsement list speaks volumes about his faith—or lack thereof—in her ability to debate, much less win. The idea of a Trump vs. Harris debate is already causing political analysts to pop popcorn. It’s less about who will win, and more about who will make the most headlines for foot-in-mouth comments.
Deep down, Biden, much like Obama, recognized Harris’ weaknesses far before anyone else. Everyone remembers Biden’s mixed signals about whether he was even fit to run, and it turns out his gut feeling about Harris’ viability wasn’t exactly optimistic. If a disastrous debate featuring Biden against Trump was the alarm bell for his exit strategy, just imagine Harris fumbling her way through questions on foreign policy and health insurance for “all migrants.” That’s not a debate; it’s a train wreck waiting to happen.
Despite any former loyalties, Obama seems to understand that the current Democratic ticket is about as appealing as a soggy cardboard box. His past experience shows that he knows how to rally support, so when he sits this one out, it’s a red flag. One might have hoped that a seasoned politician like Biden would have had the foresight to see the writing on the wall, but instead, it looks like he took the exit ramp when the going got tough. Should things get desperate, an insincere Obama endorsement of Kamala might soon become the only ticket left to ride, as he grapples with the reality of how far down the Democratic barrel they’ve scraped.
