It says a lot when even the Obama crowd is warning Democrats to stop playing political games with our national security. That’s right. Jeh Johnson, Obama’s own Secretary of Homeland Security, is waving the red flag, practically begging Democrats to fund the very Department that keeps Americans safe. If that doesn’t get their attention, what will? Apparently, liberal lawmakers are perfectly happy to sit back and watch the government break down, even as deadly threats multiply right here at home.
While Democrats pat themselves on the back for “resisting” common-sense security funding, real Americans are stuck paying the price. Four terror attacks just this month—four! From Austin to New York, Michigan to Virginia, extremists are targeting our people and our institutions. A gunman shouts allegiance to Allah in Texas. A teenager driven by ISIS hurls explosives at a crowd in New York. Another madman attacks a synagogue in Michigan. ROTC cadets in Virginia are forced to fight for their lives against an armed thug. And what are Democrats doing? Holding up critical funds for DHS, the one agency designed to confront exactly these threats. It’s insanity.

Worse, more threats are looming. Intelligence officials are intercepting messages that suggest Iranian terror networks could activate sleeper cells in the U.S. at any moment. Iran—the same terror-sponsoring regime that Obama’s old team once tried to cozy up to with pallets of cash and no accountability. Now, their proxies are on the move, and thanks to a DHS running on fumes, America is more vulnerable than ever. Tell me again how open borders and bureaucratic gridlock make us “safer.”
Let’s cut through the noise: This isn’t about compassion, or fairness, or whatever slogans the left is spouting today. This is about the basic duty of the government—to protect its citizens. DHS employees, border agents, TSA officers, ICE and FEMA workers, Coast Guard crews—over a quarter-million people are being pushed to the sidelines, unable to do their jobs properly, all because Democrats want to score cheap political points. They’d rather kneel to the radical wing of their party than defend American lives.
It’s time to wake up. Even Obama’s former top security chief is ringing the alarm bell. How many lives have to be shattered, how many warning signs ignored, before liberals admit their priorities are dangerously out of touch? If this is what progress looks like, America’s enemies must be cheering. Maybe it’s time for Democrats to decide whose side they’re really on.
