Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown Avoids Biden-Harris Praise at DNC Amid GOP Mockery

Democrats have converged on Chicago this week to shower accolades on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but not every Democrat is willing to bask in the glow of their party’s supposed greatness. Sherrod Brown, the soon-to-be desperate Ohio senator, is dodging the spotlight like it’s the latest TikTok dance trend. With the Buckeye State solidly red and a history of favoring Donald Trump in two elections, Brown’s absence speaks volumes, leading Republicans to humorously declare him “missing.”

In an entertaining turn of events, Republican operatives have plastered “missing person” signs throughout Ohio, highlighting Brown’s conspicuous retreat from the Democratic National Convention. The signs joke that Brown was “last seen” opening up the southern border while “hiding” from the record of his newfound ‘leader,’ Kamala Harris. The poster even carries a cheeky warning about his tendency to play dress-up as a moderate, despite his cozy 99% voting alignment with Harris. Apparently, Brown thinks that giving the convention a pass will somehow make him appear more centrist.

The controversy intensifies as Brown, who proudly endorsed Harris, finds himself tangled in a web of political gamesmanship following her unexpected rise to the top of the Democratic ticket. Perhaps the most shocking twist is the whispering gallery claiming that Biden was effectively ousted, courtesy of a vengeful Nancy Pelosi. The Harris campaign continues to float lofty ideas about “joy,” but where are the specifics? Instead, big-name speakers at the DNC, like Oprah and the Obamas, have opted to unleash a barrage of insults directed at Trump rather than tackle the real issues plaguing American voters.

As it stands, Ohio has been a Republican stronghold for several election cycles, with Trump’s endorsement powering J.D. Vance to the Senate last year. Brown, meanwhile, is trying to fend off a challenge from Republican Bernie Moreno, another Trump ally. Moreno’s campaign team has enthusiastically pointed out that Brown has been a steadfast ally of the Biden-Harris administration, taking nearly every radical position they’ve embraced. While Brown tries to avoid the convention, he can’t escape the reality that his voting record lays bare his alignment with the most extreme elements in the Democratic Party.

Not just Brown, but several other vulnerable Democratic senators like Jacky Rosen from Nevada and Jon Tester from Montana have also made a strategic retreat from the DNC. While Brown claims he often skips conventions—which sounds awfully like a politician trying to sell a bad habit—this marks the first instance since his congressional debut in 1994 that he has chosen not to attend the DNC. It appears as if Harris, too, is unwilling to fully own her time in office, promising to tackle inflation and border control immediately if granted the keys to the White House. Yet, Trump aptly points out that Harris has occupied her position for three and a half years with no results to show for it. This kind of fast-talking only fuels the growing skepticism around Democrat promises.
