Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat from California, just can’t seem to keep her mouth shut. In a recent interview with CNN, she managed to undermine her own party’s messaging for the 2024 election by hesitating to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the best running mate for Joe Biden. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
Pelosi couldn’t even muster up a proper endorsement for Harris, instead saying, “He [Biden] thinks so, and that’s what matters.” Really, Nancy? That’s the best you could come up with? It’s clear that Pelosi doesn’t have much confidence in Harris, and it’s causing a real disconnect within the party.
During the interview, Pelosi went on to downplay Harris’s role as vice president, saying that she doesn’t have much responsibility. What a confidence boost for Harris! I’m sure she’s thrilled to have Pelosi praising her for doing basically nothing. It’s no wonder Pelosi had to do some damage control later on.
But let’s be honest, Pelosi’s half-hearted praise of Harris was nothing compared to the drooling admiration she had for Biden. According to Pelosi, Biden has “great experience and wisdom” and a “vision for our country.” It’s clear where her loyalty lies, and it’s not with Harris.
It’s undeniable that Harris has drawn a lot of attention because of Biden’s age. Most voters recognize that Biden is too old to serve a second term, and Harris is just a heartbeat away from the presidency. But even with this in mind, Pelosi couldn’t bring herself to fully support Harris.
Fortunately, Pelosi’s successor, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, stepped in to clean up the mess. He called Harris a “great running mate” and praised her as a “tremendous partner.” It’s obvious that Jeffries was just trying to cover for Pelosi’s lackluster endorsement.
At the end of the day, Pelosi’s momentary lapse of truthfulness gave us a glimpse into what she really thinks about Harris. It’s clear that deep down she knows Harris is a dud. And if even Nancy Pelosi can’t hide her true feelings about the vice president, then maybe it’s time for the rest of us to acknowledge that Harris isn’t up to the task.
